Story
Hello 👋🏼 Sam here. I have taken on a huge challenge to run the London Marathon for the Anthony Nolan Charity, a charity that helps those with bone marrow failure and bone marrow/blood cancers, to find a match on the donor register and give them a second opportunity at life.
As many of you may or may not know, my sister, Kayleigh was diagnosed with bone marrow failure in 2017, namely Aplastic Aneamia and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Haemaglobinuria. Both these diseases are super rare.
Whilst these diseases were manageable, Kayleigh relapsed in 2021 and went on to have a fully matched donor in 2022. She had a bone marrow transplant which, unfortunately, she rejected. Fast forward to May 2023, and she had a second bone marrow transplant to see if it would be successful this time around. Unfortunately, the chemo and radiation treatments were more aggressive this time, resulting in a lengthy stay in Bristol Hospital, where she was treated. The outcome of the second transplant is yet known.
On 23rd August 2023, Kayleigh gained her angel wings. Therefore I will be running in her memory.
Your support would mean the world to me and my sister ❤️
