In August last year our world was turned upside down when we found out our then 22month old baby boy Oscar has type 1 diabetes. It's a lifelong chronic condition and means that his body cannot produce insulin. If the amount of glucose in the blood is too high it can, over time, seriously damage the body's organs. We have since then lived with the daily battle of adjusting to what this condition is and how to manage it to the best of our ability to ensure he lives a normal, happy and healthy life. In the months that have since passed we have always kept a close eye on our older daughter Paige due to the fact there is a 1 in 10 chance of siblings also being type 1. In March this year our worst fears came true when she also started to show the signs, extreme urination and thirst and was then diagnosed In hospital. Both my babies now have to face multiple daily insulin injections, as well as frequent blood testing throughout the day. Hypos and hypers are a common struggle and we just hope that one day as technology progresses and more research is carried out their lives may just become that bit easier. This is why we fundraise. With your help and support we have hope that someday, there may be a cure.
