As most of you know, I have volunteered for Woking & Sam Beare Hospice for years on reception and am now working as a Community Fundraiser here, which I love! 

My reason for it all, and for this sky dive to raise as much money as I can for us, is because the Hospice  took such great care of my best friend, Kathryn Gillies (Gilly to me) when our new building in Goldsworth Park opened. She made the decision herself to come into our in-patient unit here. She said that it made her feel in control of what would happen to her at the end of her life. Gilly apologised to me, as her friend, for making that decision, but I couldn’t have been prouder of her as I always was during our long friendship. Our Hospice made it possible for her parents to stay with her, for her brother to have a great film night with her and for her friends to visit and be there for fun times with her while the incredible doctors and nurses made her comfortable and enabled those visits for us all. 

Our gorgeous, amazing, clever and beautiful Gilly passed away at 42 years old. She said she felt at peace when she came through our doors. Gilly was far too young, but she passed away with the dignity and great care that she deserved. That everyone deserves.
