Story
Rhinos are iconic and unique animals, which are well-recognised around the world. They continue to face the risk of extinction from a multitude of threats, including poaching, habitat loss, conflict, and corruption. The future of the Rhino remains uncertain despite substantial international efforts to preserve the species and so supporting Rhino conservation has never been so critical and important. There are currently estimated to be only 26,261 individuals left in the wild, and these populations scattered across Africa, Asia and India remain under significant pressure.
I’ve had the privilege of running the London marathon a couple of times before and my normal objective is to hit a new PB each time. This occasion will be no different, except I’ll be fundraising for Save The Rhino and officially running the marathon dressed as a Rhino for Rhinos.
The costume itself weighs around 8/9kg and has restricted visibility, so less than ideal for running in crowds and if it's a very hot day! It is expected it will add at least an hour to my usual marathon time. My training will involve wearing a weighted vest and doing a number of practice runs in the costume to prepare! So this will present a whole new and exciting challenge over 26.2 miles, which I am keen to take on to help protect the future of the Rhino.
