Story
As many of you will know, I am not a runner – I was beaten in the 6 minute run at High School by 3 asthmatics and lost the running race at primary school by grandstanding. However, I am attempting to turn around the inability of a lifetime in order to raise money for a fantastic cause, the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Special Purpose Fund at Barts and the London Charity, with a whole host of friends in recognition of Terry Green’s bravery and in thanks for Barts’ care.
I have known the Green family for most of my life - I have grown up with Nikki and our parents have been friends for many years. 6 years ago, Nikki’s dad Terry fell ill with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. With the invaluable support of Barts Cancer Centre and Intensive Care he bravely battled the disease and in 2011 ran the London Marathon to raise money for their support. However, later in the year he was diagnosed with Leukaemia and once again he needs their care. The way that Terry and the whole family have dealt with each disease has been truly inspiring and has motivated me to run and raise money for those without whose work he would not be with us today.
My Nan’s sister, Joyce Oddy, died of Leukaemia aged 21, leaving behind a young husband and a 6-month old daughter. By raising money for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Special Purpose Fund at Barts and the London Charity, I hope in the future new treatments will be available, Leukaemia and Lymphoma will be more easily treatable and more lives will be saved.
