Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
As you may know, I have completed in a good few sports in my life - from rowing, triathlons, running and motor racing.
This swim is from Gosport (Portsmouth) to Ryde in the Isle of Wight, across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. We will have a pilot boat with us and a support kayak, and I will be doing it with my friend and sometime running partner Vassos Alexander, (who also happens to be on Virgin Radio each weekday morning from 6am to 10am. with Chris Evans) - so listen out on Tuesday morning!
In July 2016 I was on my bike at a roundabout in Chertsey, Surrey, and was knocked over by a car, and carried along on the bonnet, before hitting the road and sustaining two broken vertebra. Very luckily for me, the fracture was 'stable', and I have made a pretty full recovery, which I am extremely grateful for - deep thanks for the Orthopaedic Ward at the nearby St. Peters Hospital, Chertsey.
It therefore seems appropriate that I should try to support a Charity which specialises in assisting those who might not have been so lucky and sustain long term damage to their backs, and need help and support.
I realise that we are all subjected to many requests for donations, and so please do not feel obligated, but any donation you feel you can make will be very much appreciated. Love and best wishes, Sam.
