Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am running the Edinburgh Marathon, together with my son Richard and daughter Jessica, in aid of Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East in May. I've never run a marathon before, but thought it would be a good way to celebrate my 60th birthday, and the joys of getting my pension and bus pass!
The money raised will go to Age Concern Slough and Berkshire Est to help the work we do - Many older people face some daunting situations, not least fear of coping with daily tasks, such as getting to doctor's appointments, getting their shopping, sorting out their bills ( coping with threatening letters that arrive because they haven't been able to read the post due to failing sight - getting small repair jobs done - ) Jobs they have in the past been more able to do, but due to failing health now and find difficult. With help coping with these daily tasks it leaves them free of anxiety and fear, and some are able to enjoy going to day centres, where they can be with friends, share activities, get a good meal.
The breadth of the work Age Concern does ranges from Advocacy ( which is where I am involved ) to Information and Advice, Helping Hands, Day Centres, Toe Nail Cutting, Handy Person Service. We are a charity and rely on donations from local government, individuals and trusts to keep these services going. We have a large group of volunteers working in each of these services, and with the ageing population the need for what we do grows greater each year.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now! Thank you very much - I really appreciate your support. And if anyone wants to come along and cheer me on, you will be most welcome!
