We work solely in Cornwall to protect our wildlife and wild places

Charity Registration No. 214929

From midnight 10 June 2017, we (Sally Luker and Richard Comont) will be doing our utmost best to see and identify 1000+ species in a single 24-hour period.  Our chosen location is Cornwall, and due to practicalities, predominantly West Cornwall.  Other teams will be doing similar in other parts of the country.

Despite the forecast wet weather, commencing at midnight, we will be visiting several locations, incorporating as diverse a range of habitats as possible, where we will record anything living that we can confidently identify.  As always, our records will be disseminated to local records centres, recording groups, and other interested parties, the importance of which cannot be over-emphasised.

It would be wonderful if we could raise some much-needed funds whilst doing so, which would be used to support further biological recording activity and conservation efforts within Cornwall.

The rules are as follows:

  • It must be from midnight to midnight on that date.
  • One vehicle and two people only.
  • You can't split up so both people have to see each species.
  • Traps can be set before midnight but cannot be activated until
  • All microscope work and identification must occur in the 24 hour period
    otherwise it does not count.
  • All records must be submitted to the local records centre.
  • Fund-raising for wildlife charities is encouraged, our chosen
    organisation is Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
