Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Joan Shakespeare 1923 ~ 2014

Joan was a happy character who appreciated all the small things in life. It brings a smile to my face when I look back to when I was a child during my weekend visits, hearing her happily singing no matter what task she was carrying out. Her family and friends meant everything to her and she enjoyed nothing more than just seeing us grow up to the individuals we are today and being so proud of us all. It’s sad to think that we never realise how much influence certain people have in our lives until they're gone. Suffering from heart disease for many years, she was determined not to let it get her down, fighting every step of the way. My last memories are of seeing her sitting at the head of the table at the Royal Naval Association Club, surrounded by her family and friends with her usual big warming smile.

The strength within her is inspirational to us all but even with all this fight her exhausted body gave up on her on Tuesday 4 February. If it wasn’t for the research and support of the British Heart Foundation, along with NHS and Social Services personnel she wouldn’t have been able to see the last years through. Most take their lives for granted, where for others even seeing another year is a miracle.

Joan had a good life, reaching the age of 90. Whatever the age, it doesn’t make it any easier for those left behind. Please consider helping others fulfil their lives and those surrounding them.

Times are hard and money is tight, even donating £2 can provide 10 children aged 7 – 11 to get more physically active. If you make a donation or you do not, please share this post for others to see and inspire them to consider getting involved whether it’s donating clothes, money, events etc every little helps.

Remember every single person can make a difference.

Rest in peace Grandma, your sprit and courage will stay in our hearts always.
