Fundraising for Brainstrust
I've decided to do something completely mad this year and participate in the Great North Run! It's the world's biggest half marathon and takes place on Sunday 15th September in Newcastle, UK. Most of you who know me will immediately realise what a challenge this represents as I'm definitely NOT a runner. I fully expect to be bringing up the rear of the 56,000 strong entry field.
So you're probably wondering what's motivated me to commit to such a foolhardy act? My niece Jess and brother Robert are also participating and we are raising funds for a wonderful charity called Brainstrust.
Jess' boyfriend James was diagnosed with brain cancer just under a year ago in November 2012. Since then it's been a rollercoaster ride with him undergoing brain surgery twice to remove 2 tumours, 9 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiotherapy. Any form of cancer is horrible. What I didn't realise until James became ill was that brain cancer is the biggest killer of children and adults under the age of 40, yet it has the least funding and lowest level of awareness.
Please dig deep to help me raise much needed funds for Brainstrust, an amazing charity which helps support families and individuals with brain tumours.
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Sal xx
