We support Birmingham Children's Hospital to improve the lives of sick children

Story

Our Story:

When our second child Freddy was around four months old we discovered that he had a condition called Saggittal Synostosis and after many X-rays and scans, which were traumatic enough to go through, we were told Freddy needed major cranio-facial surgery as two of the five bones in his skull had fused together way too early and were causing pressure on his brain. The operation was scheduled for a few months later when he was just over 7 months old and we were extremely worried as the days and weeks went by. The Birmingham Children's Hospital were amazingly supportive and really helped us to understand what was happening and how the whole process would feel for us all. They even advised us to get a special story book for Freddy's older brother Ben which really helped him also understand what was happening. When the time came I stayed in hospital for five days with Freddy while he recovered and had such a lot of support from the staff. Our family are so grateful for everything the hospital has done for us all. Freddy is now three years old and is a very happy, healthy little boy with a huge wiggly scar from one ear to the other that is almost completely covered by his hair and which he is only just starting to learn about and understand his own amazing story.

At Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, we believe there’s always more we can do for our sick kids and that’s why we will always strive to do more for our patients and families. It’s our mission to raise the vital funds needed to make a real difference to all who use our hospital.Your support empowers us to take innovative approaches to treating some of the sickest children in the UK. Your fundraising enables us to make our hospital feel just like home. Your donations are helping us to find new ways to treat and cure childhood diseases.
