Story
I'm raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support by doing a ridiculously long (50 km) walk in July and I wondered if you're able to help me reach my fundraising target?
At one point towards the end of last year, two of my close friends were having chemotherapy at the same time and it made me realise just how prolific cancer is.
You hear the '1 in 2 of us will get cancer' statistic, but it's really laid bare when people close to you have it, especially when they're only in their 40s and 50s.
I knew I wanted to do something to feel like I was helping so I've chosen to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There are lots of different charities out there but Macmillan offer hands-on support and I think that's *really* important.
It's a hell of a journey from finding a lump, going to the doctor, getting a diagnosis, having a life-changing operation, going through chemotherapy and somehow trying to get your head around the whole thing.
Macmillan supports people emotionally and financially. They help people come to terms with having cancer, going through treatment, and answering their questions.
For some, being ill means not being able to work and pay the bills, that must be horrendous on top of everything else. Macmillan is there to help – and they helped about 2.4 million people in the UK last year.
I love walking so the type of sponsored challenge was an easy choice. What might not be so easy is walking 50km through the Peak District in a day! For those of you who don't know, I've had fibromyalgia for nearly 20 years and if I'm tired or unwell my legs sometimes don't work.
I've just had three weeks off training as I had sinusitis, which meant I couldn't walk for a few days. I could hardly get from room to room so the thought of doing 50 km seemed ridiculous.
Now I'm over the virus, I'm back out there and back on my training plan, and I'm going to make sure I can complete the walk in July. There are people going through far worse every day and I'm doing this for them.
Please donate if you can and help me reach my target. Any amount makes a difference.
Thank you :-)
Sally
