The neuro-rehabilitation unit at Rookwood Hospital provides rehabilitation for people who have suffered brain injuries. The severity of this type of injury means that patients are often in hospital for many months.

Story

Claire Nokes was just 25 years old when she tragically passed away in October 2017, and she is the reason I am running for the Prop Appeal.

On December 28th 2016, Claire collapsed at a friend’s house. She had suffered a cardiac arrest, subsequently confirmed as having been brought on by a condition called myocarditis.

Claire suffered a hypoxic brain injury and would be in a vegetative state for the next (and last) eight months of her life. But during that time, she (and her family) were cared for at Rookwood Hospital. The support and care from the staff at Rookwood and the Prop Appeal charity was a lifeline to Claire’s family and they wouldn’t have been able to get through such a terribly difficult time without them

The Prop Appeal has been set up to help improve the experience of patients and their families during those truly difficult times. They are planning to re-vamp the day-room into a more homely environment, upgrade the kitchen where patients are able to relearn cooking and other domestic skills, and to replace a chalet which reproduces surroundings at home to help patients readjust before being discharged. You can also make a donation via text: text PROP08 followed by your chosen amount (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10) to 70070
