A Year to honour our mum”
My calendar of fundraising events this year is filled with huge challenges. From a Run/Swim in June, to the London Marathon in 2019, there isn’t much space in between for any more events. And I am doing it all in memory of my mum.
“A year to honour our Mum”
My story begins in September 2017, when my mum was diagnosed with gallstones. I had been on holiday for four days in India in November when I received a called from my eldest sister Jayne, who gave me the awful news that mum had been diagnosed with cancer.
I flew home, after hearing that mum had been given only days to live. Mum was on the general ward, without palliative care, and Me and my sisters fought to bring mum home. The situation changed when the district nurse referred mum to Rotherham Hospice:
“It was like angels walked through the door” The nurses were available when mum needed them, equipment, medicine, when we needed the Hospice, the Hospice were there to help.
Mum sadly passed away two days after the Hospice became involved with her care:
“Those last two days were made special” It allowed us as a family to spend precious time with mum rather than worrying about her care.
We have decided that we would spend a year honouring our mum in aid of Rotherham Hospice
Since November, I am – a keen swimmer, who has already swam the English Channel in a relay! – l have added a number of events to my diary, culminating at the London Marathon in 2019 in support of Rotherham Hospice. My diary is filled with the following:
