We raise funds to benefit the pupils at The Clare School

Story

Yes, I am a glutton for punishment and yet again with be running the Great North Run (third year in a row along with support Team Edmonds – Ma and Pa!) but this year I am looking to raise funds for another very worthy cause that is local to where I live in Norwich. My Father is on the board of governors and it is a charity that is very close to his heart and as he is very close to mine I have decided this year to raise fund for the ‘Care for Claire Appeal’.

For those of you that know nothing about ‘Care for Clare Appeal’ it is an exclusively charitable organisation for the education and benefit, generally of disabled persons under the age of 20 years and in particular such persons attending the Clare School in the City of Norwich. The Clare School is a mixed, day Community Special School for pupils, from 3 to 19 years of age, with special needs usually associated with physical disabilities and/or sensory impairments. Many of the pupils also have complex medical needs and learning difficulties associated with their physical or sensory disabilities.

The school is funded by Norfolk County Council and under the Local Management of Schools scheme; it is responsible for managing all of its own educational activities and finance. Pupils attending The Clare School come from most areas of the County of Norfolk and from parts of North Suffolk. Door to door transport is provided daily as required. It is set in pleasant grounds of several acres together with an Infant and Junior School. The School caters for a diverse range of abilities across the whole school. Pupils may be within the normal range of intellectual ability or may have learning difficulties associated with their physical or sensory disabilities and teaching is organised to encourage progress as individuals. All pupils follow the National Curriculum at a level appropriate to their needs and are encouraged to develop an enquiring and active interest in their studies. Where possible, the curriculum is parallel to that of mainstream schools, with attention given to the additional and individual curriculum to develop personalised learning.

As I am sure you agree this is a really worthwhile cause and I hope that you will join me in helping to raise some much needed funds for them.

Thank you for reading this and I am sure that Kate wouldn’t have minded me switching my allegiance to a school as she was a teacher as well J.

Wish me luck with the training!
