Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. We will be running the Mells 10k in Memory of Ben. As Clic Sargent nurses, we have over 50 years joint experience caring for children with cancer and complex needs. Our role with Ben was to provide the highest level of care and enable Su, Nige and Luke to provide care with us to ensure Ben could remain at home, where Ben and his family always felt was right for them. Ben was surrounded by familiar noises, the television, friends, family, laughter, and gran ironing! The smells of the log fire and cooking. He felt safe.
The care was very individualised, complex and constantly changing. Together we had difficult conversations, we talked the unimaginable. We hid from nothing. Situations were faced together, impossible situations were understood. There was an honesty between us. We delivered the best solutions for that time realising we were on a journey and things changed, often without reason and always before we were ready. Their kindness, honesty and openness, has meant for Ally and I we were humbled and privileged to be part of their journey.
Nige, Su and Luke have been where no parent or brother hopes they will have to go, they did this with unimaginable dignity and strength. Bens journey travelled from an exciting fulfilling life along the unbearable journey to his death. Why Ben, we ask? He was a bright beautiful innocent loved young boy- there was no reason.
Clic Sargent enabled us to give some extra time, we worked flexibily, evening visits were valuable, we took it in turns to have the phone so one of us was always contactable. Without Clic Sargent Ben would not have been able to be cared for at home.
We would be grateful for any donations please. You can also donate to us by texting CARB68 with the amount to 70070, please remember to add gift aid.
