Story
Sept 2005
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Women for Women Appeal will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
We are three ordinary women from Old / Stony Stratford who, for a variety of reasons, have been moved to take up the challenge set down by Professor Winston.
As you can see from our fundraising target we desperately need your help raising money for this cause. So please sponsor us now! Many thanks for your support.
February 2006 update
As you can see from our target we are beginning to get the hang of this fundraising lark and rather enjoying ourselves.
To date our events have included making vast quantities of soup, biscuits, bacon butties and hot tea / coffee to keep our community warm and well nourished throughout the winter months. (We always knew food and drink would be a good source of income in these parts.)
We have also painted faces and generally bullied and cajoled our friends and neighbours to part with their hard earned cash. (Thanks Ged.)
A recent very successful curry night at the Moghul Palace raised a staggering £3000+ through a combination of ticket sales, raffle and an auction. Many thanks go to the Moghul Palace and to Helen for all her hard work in visiting the local businesses in Stony Stratford to collect donations for the raffle.
Also a big thanks to Claire who kindly donated the proceeds of her 40th birthday party and to all her friends and family who both donated fantastic prizes and also bid for them raising us in excess of £2500+.
Future events include ;
Bag packing at Asda a big group of us, as many as we can muster. (With the promise of a trip to the pub as an incentive.)
A ladies cycling club which may also take in one or two visits to the pub for refreshments.
A stall at the Waterside Festival (hopefully selling strawberries and cream, YUMMY).
A possible ceilidh - our musicians are practicing furiously as we speak.
Another curry night to send us on our way later in the year.
And yes, more bacon butties and hot tea and coffee for the parents of the under 8 football team. (Thanks again Ged.)
On a serious note we have been absolutely bowled over by the generosity, support and encouragement of everyone we have told about this challenge. It is clearly a very important charity for lots of people and we have been humbled by some of the stories we have heard. So a big thanks has to go to all our family, friends and neighbours. We couldn't do this without you. THANKS!
So as we are doing so well with our fundraising, our thoughts must now turn to acknolwedgement of us actually needing to do some training. Progress is steady, honest!
