Story
As you will be aware, the current situation in Myanmar for the Rohingya people is at a terrible stage. More than 123,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to the border of Bangladesh with barely the clothes on their backs. They are joining the 500,000 Rohingya who have been displaced by what some world leaders are calling ‘genocide and ethnic cleansing.’
Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar have faced decades of discrimination and persecution, but recently the crisis has become even more acute. 400,000 people are estimated to still be trapped in conflict zones in western Myanmar. Hundreds of thousands are fleeing devastating violence.
Thousands of families have been forced from their homes as the violence spread through their villages. Widespread burnings have been reported but the death toll after this latest crisis is still unknown.
Overstretched camps on the border of Bangladesh are struggling to cope with the huge numbers of displaced families, including men, women, children and infants (with many newborns) arriving everyday, with very minimal essentials to go by. Basic necessities like food, water and shelter are all in short supply.
