Story
Dear Members of the Saint David’s Community,
Throughout the long history of our school, service and charity have played an integral role in our mission. Last year, when our community was spread out far and wide, we came together to raise over $23,000 during our Pennies for Pushups challenge for Feeding America. Our commitment to helping others is so engrained in the lives of our boys that even after graduating, many continue doing great work within their communities.
Recently, Uno Wait (Class of ’12) introduced Saint David’s to work he is doing with CityLax, a Lacrosse program that works toward keeping kids active and on the playing fields, focused on their schoolwork, and off the streets, as Covid forces widespread budget cuts to school programming.
To play our part, the Athletic Department will create a Saint David’s “team” to participate in the “CityLax Virtual 5K So NYC Kids Can Play.” Boys will seek sponsorship for their efforts, and strive to achieve personal bests in speed, endurance, and fun!
The Virtual 5K will begin Monday, October 26 and conclude on Thursday, October 29. Lower School boys will run each day during their sports period and their total distance will ultimately add up to a 5K. Upper School boys will compete in a 5K during one of their sports periods and will have their finishing times tracked and recorded. Based on their performance and secured sponsors, donations can be made directly at the link above.
As with any fundraiser, participation in the fundraising is voluntary, but all boys will participate in the running portion. Because this is a virtual 5K, our boys’ efforts are not limited to sports class, and we encourage parents, siblings, and relatives from near and far to join the fun!
CityLax is the largest urban lacrosse program in the country, supporting over 72 high school and middle school teams. Saint David’s and CityLax both pride themselves in teaching character, integrity, and resilience through sports. Together, we can make a lasting impact on our community and the lives of youth athletes when they need us most!
