Story
UPDATE: Sadly the trek won't be happening for me this time around, but I'll be doing it in 2022, insha'Allah. Thank you to all who have sponsored me. I'll update this page when I have further news.
In early 2020 I was hit by an undiagnosed illness that left me unable to walk for several weeks, and until April 2021 unable to walk, stand or sit without considerable pain and difficulty. Thanks to the support of my family, a diagnosis by Dr Stuart Miller, and the ongoing work of the very wonderful Donna Sanderson-Hull and the staff of Blue Sky Sports Physiotherapy, I’m on the road to being back in the game and aiming for complete recovery. To mark this, I've signed up for the Sahara Trek.
I’ll be walking to raise much-needed funds for the amazing work of The Alzheimer’s Society, and in memory of my brother Jonathan and my Dad who passed last year. Any donations will be gratefully received. After my recent medical history, the trek will be a significant challenge, though given my love for Islamic culture and the world of Sufism in particular, a visit to the beautiful country of Morocco will be an experience in itself.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
