In a couple of weeks time (after a 2-year pandemic postponement), I’m embarking on the journey of a lifetime to raise money for one of the most amazing charities I know. One close to my heart for so many reasons. I’ll be joining a group heading to the Sahara Desert and trekking up to 20km per day for 4 days in temperatures of up to 35° during the day... and sleeping under the stars where it can drop to below freezing! 

Whilst cancer affects so many families, my own included, Martlets is about so much more than cancer alone. They provide an incredible service in the community and the hospice for those living with many terminal illnesses including heart failure, motor neurone disease, dementia, renal failure and many more.

I was originally set a target of £1400 which I reached in mid-January 2020. I’ve now re-set my target to £3000 for a last minute pre-departure push - and whilst this sounds a lot, in the bigger picture of what it takes to provide hospice care it’s a drop in the ocean. For example it would provide around eight days of hospice care for someone in their own home, or five weeks of day services for people to attend the hospice for various clinical and therapeutic services.

So, please help me, and Martlets, on this journey by giving whatever you can afford — as they say every little helps. Like many other charities, Martlets has seen a huge decline in their fundraising income due to the pandemic lockdown. Let's try and build that back up.
