Story

On December 7, 2018, Dr. Ahmed Ramiz Alhabib left us at just 29 years young.

Ahmed and I would always joke that we were fetus friends from the womb and shared a connection before we were born as our Mums were in the same lamas classes whilst pregnant. That is undeniable, Ahmed has left us all with a connection that lives within all that knew him.

He has taught me so much about how to live everyday. From simple things like how to choose the best mangoes 🥭 and more important things like the value of friendship and how to balance a demanding career and family.

Ahmed had Type-1 diabetes. He always had a juice box with him (Al-Rabie 🍊) always doing the best. He was healthy, active, dedicated and always selfless. He left a sparkle everywhere he went. Ahmed always worried for others, he used to make it a point to visit my Mum as she is also diabetic and would share his knowledge with her as to how to live a healthy life with diabetes.

Ahmed and I went to the same medical school but In different counties, he was in Dublin and I was in Bahrain. Throughout our medical school journey Ahmed was my confidant and mentor. His joy was spread across countries, I met some exchange students who knew Ahmed and his energy was widespread. Everyone who met him only had good things to say because that’s the gentleman Ahmed was.

He  was a pediatrician, on the last stretch of his residency and doing the best at what he did. Ahmed was working a 24 hour shift at a hospital in Washington DC when he passed away. Just after operating and saving a child’s life, Ahmed was at a hospital meeting and excused himself to rest. During this time he passed away whilst on call at the hospital.

Ahmed was a responsible big brother and gem of a son. He loved his family dearly.  He always put his family first and had so much insight as to what was important in this journey we call life.

We can still hear your laugh lighting up our lives and only giving us happy memories.

He has shown me that there is so much to do and so much love to spread. There is no moment to be taken too seriously -as Ahmed could always see the light in every situation and make a go of it with a genuine smile on his face.

There is much more to say and we will have occasion to share our memories in the years to come. You will continue to live on in all of our memories.

Thank you, Ahmed,  you lived and you loved - a mosaic of memories to treasure forever. Your flame is burning brighter than ever.

Thank you for opening my eyes to a new way of living - the Ahmed way.

Taking inspiration from his approach to life and applying that to my own. I’ll be running for Diabetes UK.

Help me honour Ahmed Alhabib, and join me in my quest to start living life The Ahmed Way. Any donation is a positive difference, so please feel free to chip in with whatever you feel comfortable.

Thank you for being a part of my journey Ahmed, until we meet again.

With love,

Safia
