The third Waterberg Trust Challenge Ride 20-28 January 2018
So together with twelve intrepid riders plus guides are riding 180km across the Waterberg plateau, 6 days in the saddle, to raise funds for The Waterberg Trust which sponsors conservation, health and education projects in the aim to uplift the people of this beautiful region in South Africa.
The funds raised from the TWT Challenge Ride are being split 50% to Save the Waterberg Rhino and 50% to community projects.
6754 rhinos have been killed in South Africa since 2008, in 2016 the figure was more than 1050, that's 1 rhino every 8 hours. Birthing rates are now lower than the rate of poaching so the population is officially in decline. Time is running out....
90% of the world's white rhino live in South Africa and the Waterberg holds the third highest population in the country. Security is expensive, winning hearts and minds through education is vital in the fight against the poachers. The survival of the rhino is important for all the community in terms of tourism, protecting all wildlife and the economy, providing a safe and prosperous environment.
Please give whatever you can to save this iconic species and help protect the people of this rural community.
