Story
On 21st April 2024, I am lucky enough to be joining the incredible #TeamMarieCurie runners taking to the streets of London to run 26.2 miles in aid of Marie Curie.
I am running in memory of my beautiful mother who received end of life care at Marie Curie after her battle with Breast Cancer. Marie Curie provide vital frontline nursing and hospice care, a free support line and a wealth of information and support.
I am not remotely a runner (which those who know me are well aware of) and I have only just started a 0-5k programme. It's going to be a lot of work but I have 9 months to get my act together so I will get there!
My motivation for doing this now is that next year will mark 10 years since I lost my mum which feels like an incredibly long time to get through life without her. I will also be turning 30 and I am generally feeling reflective. Lots of milestone moments have been missed through the years and as I was creating a '30 before 30' list I knew I wanted to do something big to honour my mum as part of it. I also wanted something that will raise money and keep my body and mind healthy over the next year.. and what could be a more incredible way to do that than by running the iconic London Marathon in her memory?
All the money that is raised helps Marie Curie Nurses provide vital care and support to people with terminal illness, and their families at the toughest time. £20 pays for one hour of vital nursing care at home for someone living with a terminal illness. £57 pays for an hour of clinical support from an expert nurse via our Support Line.£180 pays for a whole night of care from a Marie Curie Nurse.
I will keep you all updated on my progress on socials and thank you in advance to anyone who is able to support, donate or share! It is incredibly appreciated.
