Story
We are an inseparable group of friends who have grown up together since our primary school years. Our laughs are limitless; our memories are countless; and our friendship is endless. We have always been there for one another through the good times and the bad, and that has never changed... now our friend Sadie really needs our help!
Sadie is an amazing mother to two beautiful little girls - Olivia 5 and Isabella 2 - and a loving wife to Steven. She is an inspirational, strong woman who has shown determination and resilience to fight cancer for nearly two years.
We are fundraising to help raise money for a charity that is supporting Sadie with specialist treatment which is not funded by the NHS.
Back in July 2020, Sadie was originally diagnosed with Cancer of Unknown Primary and given a few months to live; seeking a second opinion, gave new hope and access to chemotherapy. After 12 rounds of chemotherapy, she finally got a second biopsy which confirmed that she actually had a germ cell tumour - a curable cancer - and she was referred to a specialist in London.
Sadie was put on a regime that included a further 6 rounds of chemo, followed by 2 stem cell transplants. For the transplants, she had to stay in a London hospital, each for a month at a time - in isolation without seeing her children, husband or any family or friends. The hope was to have surgery to remove the tumour, but a recent scan showed a spread of the cancer so this was cancelled as a result.
Her oncologist recommended a sample of the tumour to be sent to Caris in America for DNA sequencing - a test that might give a more targeted therapy.
In the meantime she was given further chemo, to help manage the spread of the cancer. But her body is not as strong anymore and doesn't recover as well from the treatment.
The results are now back from Caris and the recommendation is to start an immunotherapy called pembrolizumab; this has given Sadie and the family new hope...
which brings us to why we are asking for your support: the immunotherapy is not funded by the NHS, but a charity (H & T Clients Charitable Trust) is supporting Sadie and helping her fund the treatment, so therefore we want to give back to the charity and help Sadie get better.
