Story

The Salvation Army have been serving in Sacriston and surrounding villages since the early 1900's. Our mission has changed over the years as the needs of this community evolves. If you would like to donate to our mission we are very grateful!

Updating our Mission & Story at November 2020

Our Christmas Toy Appeal is launched throughout the UK, we too take part and provide new gifts and new toys to children in Sacriston and local villages who are in need this year.

If you would like to donate a gift directly please get in touch Captain Sarah Johnson 0191 371 0313 sarah.johnson@salvationarmy.org.uk equally if you know a family in need please contact us.  We also have an Amazon Wish List page with some gift suggestions if that is easier for you to buy a gift and have it delivered directly to us to distribute this Christmas.  https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/201ZIERUNFTG2?ref_=wl_share

We continue to support our local Food For Thought with help and support with provisions when needed.

We continue to distribute weekly free Kids Alive Comics into Sacriston and local villages.

Our Charity Shop if presently closed, we plan to re-open as soon as non-essential shops can open safely. We will be accepting donated charity shop items then thank you.

We continue to meet weekly on zoom for our Sunday Worship, Coffee Mornings and Bible Discussions if you fancy joining us you are very welcome.

Your financial support on this page all helps with the meeting the needs above and more during lockdown and beyond. Thank you

If you would like to donate gifts, toys, food through us at Sacriston Salvation Army please get in contact 0191-371-0313 or sarah.johnson@salvationarmy.org.uk  Thank you!

………..............................................................................................................……................................................… During Covid-19 Lockdown So far during May thanks to public giving nationally we have bought food and been able to give over 1000 items of food  into Sacriston and surrounding villages in food parcels through #FoodForThought. This is ongoing and the Food provision will continue while there is funds and there is a need

During the Covid-19 Lockdown we are weekly providing free over 200 childrens comics 'Kids Alive' through local supermarkets and Post Office Stores shops in Sacriston, Witton Gilbert, Nettlesworth and Kimblesworth. Some back copies have also gone out through Sacriston Youth project packs. Our hope is that every child who wants a comic is able to have a free weekly copy through these coming weeks.

One of our members continues to be busy with her sewing machine making scrubs sets, headbands and face masks for the NHS and local community key workers.

We are partnering into Sacriston’s new Foodbank through “Food for Thought” which is located in the old Police Station. Since lockdown people locally receive care packages (Food and additional essentials, personal shopping, signposting, prescription collection, befriending and much more). Through your financial support we are able to assist in the provision of parcels, care packages, gap filling items which run out of and help stocks.

While our Charity Shop and Church buildings are temporarily closed, we are volunteering in the local community helping with what we can.

We do not envisage local need will go away, it will change, so when we are through the other end of lockdown, other ways to support the Community will be published. Thank you.

We continue to welcome new residents to Sacriston with a Welcome card, we try and catch every house with a For Sale or To Let sign.

On the 20th of each month and 20:20 we pray for 20 minutes Sacriston and nearby villages, when our church is open we pray in the building, during lock down, we pray wherever we are. Feel free to join in, wherever you are, and in person when we re-open again.

One of our newer ventures will be a Dementia Friendly space for quiet and creative with some Singing by Heart which is joyful, very friendly and light-hearted. We have had a Dementia Friends audit through The Alzheimer Society and are working towards our Dementia Friends status when we are all open and running again.

This will be in addition to our regular social activities, crafts, sewing help, coffee mornings, fellowship and for Christian worship, prayer & bible discussions. Our faith in Jesus is at the heart of who we are and shapes our mission and service in community.

We offer a warm and friendly welcome and our activities are open to anyone to come whether you are a Christian believer or whether you don't believe and simply like spending time being with us whether helping or joining in.

Our Care and Share shop continues to reach out into Sacriston and is a place of welcome, support and good community spirit. Staff and volunteers look forward to being open again soon and supporting you once again. Sorry we are unable to receive any items at this time, we hope you will be able to either keep them for us for when we open or find a home for them now. We really hope to limit landfill when we are through this by sorting as much as we can.

Thank you for your contribution! All money donated on this page stays local to Sacriston and surrounding mission.
