Story

Hi Friends!!

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

My husband suggested this little challenge of 45 miles to me only a few weeks ago and I thought it it would be great fun and a good way of keeping fit.  I've been training and over done it slightly on the first session and consequently couldn't walk for a few days so I have taken the precautionary measure of booking a few days holidays after the Big Bike Ride.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: NSPCC will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Any donation no matter how big or small would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your support.

Lots of Love

Tuesday 24th July 2007

Well we done it and I can't quite believe that we did.  I'm feeling quite smug and proud at the same time.  Not because I cycled the full 45 miles because the distance wasn't huge but the ride itself was extremely challenging.

We arrived at Larne leisure centre at 9.45am Sunday morning to be met by a car park full of professional cyclists and cycling clubs dressed in shiny lycra.  Out of the seventy or so people there, only ten of us were amateurs looking like idiots in our shorts & T-shirts.

The Bike Ride kicked of at 10am as planned and we were blessed with wonderful weather.  We cycled along the coast road through Ballygally and onto Glenarm and the views were just stunning.

At Glenarm we veered of the coast road and headed for the glens (at this point I wanted to turn back) and thats when it bagan to get tough. We climbed hill after hill (some embaressingly by foot) until we reached the top of Shanes Hill.  After free wheeling our way back down (quite honestly the best part of the ride) NSPCC thought it would be smart to make us climb the whole way back up again on the other side before making our way through Feystown, Carncastle and back to the Leisure Centre at Larne.

We arrived back at 3.30pm.  Five and a half hours in total.  The pro cyclists on our return said they were concerned for us as it was one of the toughest cycles they had ever undertaken (they all done the 75 miles).  I can still walk (bonus) and none of my group suffered any injuries.  Hugely disappointed though that there were no pubs en route or some where to relieve my bursting bladder.

Can't wait to do it all again next year and I've suggested to NSPCC that us amateurs should choose the route.

Thanks to all who sponsored us, we very much appreciate it.
