Story
Hello. I am Sabrina and I am taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon on 23rd April 2023 and am fundraising for SignHealth charity.
About me
I am truly fortunate enough to be a mum to three wonderful daughters the youngest of whom was born deaf. She's included in the rest of the 90% of deaf children being born into a hearing family. In fact she was the first deaf person we had ever met! Were we worried when we were told she was deaf? Of course! We were totally blindsided by her diagnosis. However we didn't know then what we know now... just how awesome, how welcoming, how friendly and most importantly how encouraging the deaf community is.
We have been so lucky to have come into contact with so many institutions who have celebrated my daughter's deafness. However meeting people from the deaf community has been such an eye opener and has firmly cemented what we know our daughter should have access too.
Most significantly we gratefully acknowledge just how much ground work has been done by countless deaf people over the years so that my daughter has the rights she has today. Words can't describe how grateful we are.
I would love to contribute to this by running the London marathon (gulp) and raising money for a charity I know has the potential to make a huge difference to my daughter's life - Signhealth!
Why have I chosen to run for SignHealth?
We are all raising money for SignHealth because we believe in their mission of improving the health and well-being of Deaf people. SignHealth has been supporting the Deaf community for over 35 years and provides these fantastic BSL (British Sign Language) services in Psychological Therapies, Domestic Abuse and Social Care. Its going to be a big challenge to achieve the 26.2 miles and I will be training hard over the next six months to reach this goal.
Please support me by donating and sharing this page with your friends and family. Any donation no matter how big or small will make a big difference to the work SignHealth does for the Deaf community.
Thank you so much, your support is really appreciated.
