Story
Last year I signed up to run a Half Marathon to raise funds and awareness for refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland. Due to the sad loss of my mum, I had to return to Afghanistan to be with my family and was unable to participate. So in honour of everyone who supported me last year I have decided to take on this year's Half Marathon and try to reach my £1500 target!
The money I raise will support Scottish Refugee Council's Destitution Fund.
Can you imagine how it feels to leave everything while fleeing your country for safety? Unable to forget what has happened to your family and loved ones... Experiencing flashbacks of the violence and torture you have been through... Living through months and years of uncertainty, poverty and an unknown future?
As a former refugee and the current CEO of Scottish Refugee Council, I know first hand the impact destitution has on traumatised individuals. This summer's lock change eviction policy has resulted in hundreds of already vulnerable people being at risk of homelessness in Glasgow. The situation is critical, and the increased demand on the team means additional support is vital to keep the service running.
I am running to keep the service running - will you help?
