Story
As many of you know, I was born without arms, due to the drug Thalidomide.
Thalidomide was freely prescribed in the late 50s/early 60s to help pregnant women with morning sickness.
I have adjusted to a life without arms by using my feet for all daily tasks, such as getting dressed, combing my hair, writing, using a computer keyboard and driving my non-modified car.
However, in May 2012 I suffered a massive stroke while driving my car.
My entire left side was paralyzed. I had to learn how to walk and how to use my left foot for all daily tasks again. 12 months after the stroke I could barely walk 1 mile.
I have trained very hard for the last 6 months to run/walk the 26.2 mile Los Angeles Marathon. I believe , anybody who is Armed with Perseverance, regardless of their abilities, can turn possibilities into empowering reality.
Growing up in Germany, I was fortunate enough to have many recreational opportunities, which helped me grow my self-esteem and confidence.
Please help me to make sure that KEEN can continue to provide free outdoor opportunities for children and young adults with special needs.
I will run the Los Angeles Marathon to support KEEN, and I would appreciate your support for KEEN, by making a donation.
Thank you so much.
