Story
On 14th May 2022, I will be travelling to Medyka, Poland, a small village on the Poland-Ukraine border to volunteer with and assist the charity Humanity First (“HF”) in its efforts to provide aid to refugees crossing into Poland. Your donation however big or small will help HF in continuing the vital work it is doing in supporting those crossing the border.
Since the crisis began on 24 February 2022 millions of Ukrainians have fled to neighbouring countries. Medyka, Poland is considered to be one of the busiest border crossings.
HF has established a tent in the Medyka camp which is being run by the Polish Red Cross. Since 27 February 2022, HF has been working around the clock in Medyka providing medical and non-medical assistance. HF has been and continues to co-operate and work collaboratively with local authorities, the Red Cross and various UN agencies.
The tent is managed by volunteer teams from across Europe and North America and includes medical professionals. Since February, Humanity first has:
- treated 1,400+ patients and consulted hundreds more;
- provided 23,000+ hygiene kits;
- provided 45,000+ meals; and
- provided 32,000+ warm drinks.
HF’s medical facility is equipped with a defibrillator, portable ventilator, ECG, ultrasound, monitor and an ambulance. The average running costs of HF’s operations in Medyka is €15,000 per week.
In addition to the assistance provided at the Medyka camp, Poland, HF has provided assistance from neighbouring Moldova, the Netherlands and Sweden.
If you are in a position to do so, please donate to help HF continue its efforts in assisting those in urgent need by:
- treating those with medical needs;
- supporting healthcare facilities within Ukraine;
- providing meals and drinks; and
- providing hygiene kits.
