Story
I got a place on the London Marathon in autumn 2019, and a month later my brother Thomas passed away. After being postponed for several years, I’m grateful to finally be running the London Marathon in aid of a cause I’ve both seen my brother suffer directly, and my closest family suffer loss from.
I decided to run for the British Lung Foundation as this was the charity he wanted donations to go towards for his funeral instead of flowers.
This is following his ongoing battle through adulthood with Bronchiectasis; typically a disease found in older adults as a result of lifestyle factors such as smoking.
For Thomas, it was a consequence of the scarring after fighting cancer twice during his childhood. He was diagnosed with a rhabdomyosarcoma and an Ewing’s Sarcoma two years later.
From our childhood onwards, Thomas was physically limited by his health. I’ve always felt very grateful to have a healthy heart and lungs to be able to do things like this.
(I will also be taking on Snowdon - hence the event listed - which was also postponed due to COVID and then injury…)
