Story
During an urgent night time call out 'Hello Herbie', our Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, was involved in an accident which led to her being withdrawn from service.
Just after 1am on 8 May 2015 the Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat was requested to launch to rescue someone calling for help in the River Rother. As the Lifeboat Crew powered towards the scene 'Hello Herbie' collided with an unlit, partially submerged, object in the water. The collision caused irreparable damage to the lifeboat and injured three of the four crew members onboard. Thankfully, the crew members are now doing well and two of them have been able to return to duty.
Since then our crew volunteers have continued to operate a 24/7 search and rescue operation using a relief lifeboat but we now urgently need your support to raise the remaining £64,000 towards the £214,000 cost of a new inshore lifeboat. Your contribution will make all the difference and your generosity will enable our volunteers to protect families like yours around the South East coast, both now and for many years to come.
