Story

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to have a look at my page!

I am fundraising for Tourette Scotland as they are a charity run by a small group of voluntary Trustees who conduct research, organise training and awareness sessions, and work with communities to help raise awareness of Tourette Syndrome. The charity receives no government funding and so rely on fundraising and donations from the public and charitable trusts.

Even if you can't donate, no worries as other than raising money, I aim to raise awareness of Tourette Syndrome. Even if I just gets the name of this excellent charity out to as many people as possible then my work here is done, or will be after I walk!

What is Tourette Syndrome?

Tourette Syndrome is a complex, neurological condition first recognised as a disorder by French neurologist, Georges Gilles de la Tourette in 1886.

Approximately 1 in 100 people are born with Tourette Syndrome and is usually diagnosed in childhood. For a formal diagnosis to be given, both motor and vocal tics must be present for at least one year with no break over three months. This means that many people with mild tics will go undiagnosed.

Tics are the main component of Tourette Syndrome. Tics range from involuntary movements and verbal sounds, words and phrases which are not a reflection of that person's thoughts, feelings, or an insight into their inner world.

Tourette Syndrome is far more than the image you are likely to see in the media, where it is sensationalised and portrayed to be just about the 'swearing' which leads to people feeling it's ok to mock and laugh at those living with Tourette's.
