Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most people have a story about cancer. It touches so many of our
lives in so many ways.
My story about cancer is about my wife, Tina. She was diagnosed with an early stage breast cancer in late 2013 and to say that a cancer diagnosis comes as a shock is something of an understatement. The Christmas we spent together between receiving the full diagnosis the day before Christmas Eve and the operation to remove Tina’s tumour early in January is one we’ll never forget. Tina’s treatment was successful, but relentless – a couple of weeks from diagnosis to surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy – 6 months in total.
We know a lot more about the disease now than we did a generation ago, but Tina’s cancer was one large number of breast cancers that we don’t yet understand.
The cancer that touched our family is exactly what the University of Nottingham’s Life Cycle 6 is about – supporting research to detect and treat early stage breast cancers – and that’s why I’m taking part in Life Cycle 6. I’ll be joining 40 or so colleagues and friends of the University to ride the 170 miles from Bridlington to Morecombe - against the prevailing wind…
The overall objective of LifeCycle6 is to raise £1m to directly support the research activity that the University of Nottingham does in this area. Please help me to do my bit to support it.
