Story
On the 3rd June 2023 we will putting our love of football to the ultimate test by entering the TackleAfrica Football Marathon in Bristol.
The Football Marathon is a gruelling 12-hour 6-a-side tournament in aid of TackleAfrica & their brilliant work (see below). During the course of the day, each player will average around 40km - roughly the same as the London Marathon! There are very limited breaks throughout the day, meaning the teams that go furthest will be playing almost non-stop from 8am to 8pm. Fortunately, we're all the wrong side of 30 and have done absolutely no training whatsoever, so nothing could possibly go wrong...
Our 8-man squad on the day will be: Michael Gray, John-Luke Dodson, Lucas O'Driscoll, Nick Robinson, Dean Archer, Matt Gough, Adam Brettell & Ryan Moon.
Did you know...
- In Burkino Faso, 78% of women are victims of female genital mutilation
- A third of HIV-positive Africans don't know they have the infection
- In Malawi, 50% of girls have been pregnant before their 20th birthday
- More young Africans die as a result of HIV than anything else
Who are TackleAfrica?
TackleAfrica uses the power and popularity of football to deliver HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services to young people on football pitches across sub-Saharan Africa.
The money donated will improve countless young lives across sub-Saharan Africa where ignorance and myths about HIV, as well as lack of access to information & essential services for sexual health result in over a million preventable deaths every year.
Do you have a few quid spare for a good cause? Any donations that help get us collectively towards our team total would be amazing and gratefully received.
Thanks for reading :)
