Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page which I (Ryan Bourne) have created on behalf of the 3 of us!
As many are aware, my mother recently passed away at the Velindre Hospital on 3rd October 2017, after a very brief, but intense battle with Ovarian Cancer. Having supposedly seemed "fit as a fiddle" for her age, mam was sadly diagnosed with Cancer just 1 month after her 50th birthday, during late July 2017.
After firstly being treated at the Gwent Hospital, Mam was then transferred to the Velindre Cancer Centre to continue her treatment, where she eventually passed on 3rd October 2017.
Over the 3 months that Mam was treated, we all witnessed first hand how stretched and under-resourced the NHS and public hospitals are during a time of great economic austerity.
Despite the obvious strain on resources, we cannot speak highly enough of all the hospital staff who tended to Mam, night and day, both at the Gwent Hospital & Velindre Hospital. Their tremendous care, respect and dedication brought a huge comfort to us all.
I, my father (Tim Bourne) and my twin brother (Matthew Bourne) aim between us to raise a minimum of £12000 for Cancer Research Wales by Trekking the Inca Trail during September 2018. This is a high altitude trek that will cover 52km over a period of 5 days and will reach heights of roughly 18000ft before we arrive at the finishing point - The ancient city of Machu Picchu in Peru.
It is our hope that through our fundraising, we are helping to provide medical research and assistance to those individuals who need it the most.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Any donations/shares are truly appreciated.
In memory of the worlds best mother & wife, Julie Bourne.
