Story
The Foundation students from East Coast College Lowestoft campus and Great Yarmouth campus are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award. As part of this programme they are required to do an expedition. They will be covering over 21 miles in 2 days (12th and 13th May 2022). They will carry camping kit and cooking equipment for the duration of the walk. On one day they will be required to cook a meal. The students have agreed to fund raise with Ryan with all proceeds going to the R.N.I.B. It can't be underestimated how much of a challenge this will be for a lot of the group but I'm sure with their close camaraderie they will pull through!
Ryan's Story
I was born at just 24 weeks due to my mum having Hellp Syndrome and was just 460 grams, I didn't have a full set of lungs to breath so was on a ventilator to stay alive. Unfortunately, due to the amount of time spent on the ventilator this caused damage to my eyes and as a result I was going blind. I had 3 lots of laser surgery, it has helped, but I cannot see very well and as a result I’m registered severely sight impaired.
Despite all of this and the challenges I face growing up, I love raising money for charity and would really like to raise money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) who help people that are partially and severely sight impaired.
Everyday 250 people begin to lose their sight. RNIB has a crucial role to play in creating a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss. They want society, communities and individuals to see differently about sight loss.
