Hello and welcome to Pat McGettigan and Ryan Young's JustGiving page. For a long time Pat has wanted to walk the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way. With an impending milestone birthday on the horizon, Pat has made the decision to tick these two walks off his bucket list.
Ryan, having walked the West Highland Way twice before, will be keeping Pat on the right track.
Beginning on the 7th July 2018 we are planning to walk from Milngavie, just outside Glasgow, to Fort William covering the 95 miles of the West Highland Way. Since we are in the neighbourhood we will continue our journey, walking a further 79 miles along the Caledonian Canal of the Great Glen Way to Inverness. This will give us a total of 174 miles walked in 7 or 8 days. We will be carrying full packs and camping most nights.
Early on in the planning for this challenge we wanted to raise money for a good cause. We both thought that raising money for Cancer Research was worthwhile as cancer affects every family in the UK in one way or another.
Cancer Research is a UK charity in England and Wales (1089646), Scotland (SC041666) and the Isle of Man (1103). Northern Ireland charity registration pending.
They are the largest charitable funder of cancer research in NI, investing nearly £3m every year at the Centre for Cancer Research & Cell Biology (CCRCB) at Queen’s University, Belfast as well as clinical trials at hospital across NI. More information can be found in the link below:
