Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My wife Lucy is currently battling stage 4 lung cancer. She was diagnosed in February of this year and was admitted to hospital for nearly 15 weeks where she underwent many tests and scans. Cancer had manifested itself throughout her lungs, airway and event as far back as her spine.
She received targeted treatment on a generation 1 drug which consultants said would usually be successful for up to 4 years. 4 weeks later and the cancer was still growing. She was then given a generation 2 targeted treatment. This showed great results but the side effects were crippling. Lucy continued to battle the side effects of the treatment but was totally exhausted.
She spent a week at St Richards Hospice where she was able to gain much needed rest and care before returning home in late May.
Treatment was going well and scans showed the tumour was shrinking, until 3 weeks ago when my wife’s health declined rapidly! She was admitted back into hospital where scans showed the cancer spread into her oesophagus.
She spent a further 2 weeks in hospital undergoing more scans, tests and a procedure to fit a stent which would allow her to eat and drink.
Lucy is now on a generation 3 targeted treatment and back in St Richards Hospice. The staff at the hospice are incredible and the hospice provides much needed care for cancer patients and families.
