Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On the 1st of August 2020 Lyall Hodgins and I will be embarking on our 6 day journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the worlds tallest freestanding mountain (5,895m)

Having started off sat on the back of a racehorse at the top of the gallops in Greystoke, gazing at the mountains, we simultaneously said to each 'we should go up that one' That one being, Blencathra. We then Googled the most dangerous route and found sharp edge, a grade 1 scramble where one wrong move could have been game over.... before the week was out, we had completed that and decided it wasn't enough of a challenge for us and that we could have done it in silk slippers, backwards! so naturally the next step was to head back to google and scan the internet until we found the perfect challenge for a couple of wannabe adventurer's.... Africa!!

Before even considering what it might take to conquer such a mountain and such hardships we may have to endure, the trip and flights were booked...

We feel that if we are going to do this then we should try and get the most out of it that we possibly can, in raising money for the injured jockeys fund which is a very important part of a jockeys well being.

In October 2018 I had a fall at wetherby which resulted in me breaking 5 ribs and puncturing my lung, the team at the IJF quickly got me into rehabilitation and back to full fitness in 4 weeks. 3 months later I suffered another injury at Newcastle, 2 ribs, ruptured spleen and a lacerated kidney. Myself and many other jockeys would not be able to get back to full physical and mental fitness without the help of the injured jockeys fund.

For more Information on the IJF visit their website www.injuredjockeys.co.uk

A team of cameras are going to be following our training and progress over the next 5 months and producing a series of video diaries in which we will be promoting mental health and well being, encouraging people to take on new challenges and make positive changes to their lives!
