Ryan's 2019 Challenge Series

2019 Challenge series · 1 January 2019
In 2019 I am going to push myself mentally and physically to raise money for Friends of the Neonatal unit for Aberdeen Neonatal unit.
In January 2017 my little boy Theo was born. He and mum were both healthy although we couldnt go straight home due to my wife needing some extra recovery time. During day two Theo was taken away in the middle of the night to the Neonatal unit as he had developed an early onset infection. He was initally in the high dependancy unit and after a couple of days we were back on the maternity ward. A week after he was born we were finally allowed home.
That week was one of the harderst of my life so far, seeing my little boy and feeling so helpless, I was a wreck. I was so worried about him but at the same time I knew he was in the best place and the staff within the Neonatal unit were amazing and very supportive. I remember seeing the other premature babies in the high dependancey ward along with another child that needed more long term care and was staggered by the levels of care they recieved. I am fortunate in that Theo got better quite quickly and our stay in Neonatal was short but I can only image how hard it must be for parents who's little ones need weeks or even months of care.
So I have decided to push myself and raise some money to help the Neonatal unit support other families who might find their little ones needing a little extra care after being born and to also support the parents.
I will be doing 10 challenges (19 events) throughout 2019 to raise money, the Challenges are:
