Story

Thank you for visiting my page. I’m raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and I would be ever so grateful for everybody’s support for this great charity.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing. Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all. Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis.

I have set a target of completing an iron distance triathlon at Outlaw Nottingham being held on 24th July 2022. The inspiration came when I watched one of my best friends achieve the same goal at Bolton Ironman in July 2021. Previously I thought this was an impossible task, but after spectating it was one of the best days I have experienced, cheering on fellow likeminded people that have trained hard with the aim of crossing that finish line and hearing their name on the megaphone announcing that they have become an
ironman.

Ever since this day I wanted to strive to achieve the same thing, but due to work commitments previously I simply couldn’t put the time in to train effectively. Since January 2022 I started a new job closer to home that could facilitate the time to train effectively without affecting my work, so I took the plunge and booked outlaw. I also purchased a book as recommended by other triathletes called Be Iron Fit. Within the book is 3nr training programmes, just in time finish, intermediate programme and a competitive programme. I am training to the competitive plan which is a 30hr week duration, however due to the late committal I missed weeks 1-7, however I have been a keen cyclist for the last 18 months so the fitness I had built up from that I’m banking on cancelling that out to a certain degree.

have never attempted anything on this scale! I previously entered a half marathon at the end of February which I completed successfully in 1hr 55 minutes and training currently is going well in my opinion. I am currently training six days a week with two different activities per day. It is currently averaging around 13 hours a week and at my peak weeks will build up to around 20 hours a week. If you wish to follow my progress you can do on Strava, my user profile is Ryan Dunkley (B&DCC).

thought this would be a fantastic opportunity to try and raise some money and awareness for a great charity and other people that are not as fortunate as myself blessed with ill health. I also hope it inspires others to become healthier themselves by encouraging them to do some more exercise, whether it be walking, hiking, running, cycling swimming etc, or even a little more mindful of their diet and what we put in our body to fuel us.

Thanks for taking the time to read my page and please give anything you can.
