Story
Now then folks,
So i've decided to give the Brighton Marathon a go - an act of foolery or altruism, i'll let you decide!
I began training in November and have subsequently endured blood, sweat, injury and ..no tears, yet; however it has required a lot of time and dedication in keeping to a strict training plan in order for me to have any chance in smashing this run on April 14th.
My chosen charity is The Disabilities Trust, but more specifically- York House, where I work as an Assistant Psychologist. York House is specialist 38-bedded hospital which supports people who have suffered traumatic brain injuries and subsequently present with complex needs and in particular, challenging behaviour.
Many of the service users at York House lived very normal lives prior to their injury and in a matter of seconds their life was completely turned upside down. People who have suffered a traumatic brain injury can often lose sight of their senses, ability to perform daily living skills and present with a variety of psychological problems. I have come to understand that suffering a brain injury not only affects one individual, but also those close to them, such as family and friends.
The staff at York House are a real caring and compassionate bunch and do work extremely hard to give each individual the best quality of life possible.
Your donations can make a real difference to these people's lives and help provide them with the little extras, such as leisure and vocational activities, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the things they did prior to their injury. Providing communication aids to those with speech and language difficulties, as well as entertainment equipment and vocational materials will also help them regain skills they may have lots due to their injury. These are just some examples of how the funds raised will be used.
So please do not be shy people; dig deep into those pockets and put forward any change you can spare for this great charity. All donantions, no matter how small are warmly appreciated!
