Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!
Following on from Steve’s immense effort last September at the Great Scottish Run, we have both decided to have a crack at the London Landmarks Half Marathon in the name of the ME Association. We are proud to be supporting a cause, often underrepresented or unknown, that is close to our hearts.
We are motivated to run by the strength, determination and compassion of my girlfriend Jenny. Over the past year she has created an online platform for sufferers of chronic illnesses, with the additional aim of raising awareness of how such conditions affect the lives of sufferers. You can see the great work she is doing for yourself on her Instagram page and website under the name of This Thing They Call Recovery. Jenny has suffered with ME for over 6 years.
ME (Myalgic Encephalopathy), or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, is an illness that 265,000 people in the UK are currently suffering. That’s over a quarter of a million people in this country that find themselves floored by the smallest of exertions; that suffer restless and often sleepless nights; that have to deal with the frustration of the smallest judgements being clouded by ‘brain fog’; that regularly feel their joints and muscles ache unbearably.
ME alters drastically the lives of those diagnosed. The condition can disrupt education; make employment impossible and, in too many cases, leave sufferers housebound or confined to bed for many months or years. There is little agreement around what causes the condition. There is little support for those who suffer it. There is no known cure and a drastic dearth in research funding exists.
Thank you for taking the time to read our page, any donation towards the ME Association would be greatly appreciated by ourselves and the charity.
Money raised by the ME Association goes to supporting those diagnosed to better manage, understand and survive their condition. The charity also supports research investigating the potential causes and treatments for ME.
