--- Robin's story

I am raising money for a special unit at Southmead Hospital. The Neo-natal intensive care unit was there when my son was born.

My wife was diagnosed with gestational diabetes along with finding out she was pregnant with our son. Daily insulin injections and constant hospital appointments seemed to go by in a blur. After a very long and traumatic birth, Marcus was whisked away to NICU as he had hypoglycaemia (low blood sugars). He developed hyperbilirubinemia and had to have phototherapy whlst he was in his incubator.

My step son, Tim was also in NICU when he was born. He was premature at 34 weeks weighing a whooping 9lb 12oz!  No diabetes suspected then, but he was also hypoglycaemic and had various other problems. Again, without the aid of the team he wouldn’t be the strong young man he is today.

Without the support and help from the wonderful Specialist Midwives and Doctors, not shown on One Born Every Mnute, Marcus would have been a very poorly baby. They not only looked after my son but made sure our wellbeing was taken into account and supported us every step of the way. We can never say Thank You enough to them.

I will try and raise as much money to show my appreciation to them. As many people know, it has not been easy for me to get on my bike and cycle after my car accident. This is a big challenge but a worthwhile one if I can collect donations to this wonderful unit.

Please give generously. The unit needs so much to help these poorly babies.

All amounts gratefully received.

Thank you.
