The Ruxton's Ramble for Blood Cancer Awareness Month · 12 September 2020
Hi Everyone!
This September will mark the 10 year anniversary of my stem cell transplant! To celebrate this and to give back we have decided on Saturday 12th September we will climb the highest peak in England, Scafell Pike, for the Anthony Nolan Charity!
If you know me and my family you will already know our story but for those of you who do not, I will summarise.
I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in March 2009. I had 6 months of chemotherapy, but after 6 months of remission my cancer returned. This meant that further treatment of my illness would require a stem cell transplant. After both my sisters were tested and neither were a match, I was lucky enough to be found a 10/10 match from an unrelated donor. This anonymous donor saved my life!
We smashed our original £500 target in a day(!!!), beat our second and third , so now aim to raise £1250 for the Anthony Nolan Charity, their work matching donors and recipients is briefly explained below. Thanks to everyone who donates, anything you can give is greatly appreciated!! And wish us luck, we will definitely need it!!
Lots of Love,
Becca, Mike, Elaine, Kate and Emily xxxx
We are Walking Together, Saving Lives.September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and to show our support we are taking on a sponsored walk to raise lifesaving funds for Anthony Nolan. For someone with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant could be their last chance of survival. Today, five people will start their search for a stranger to save their life. Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between people with blood cancer and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. It costs £40 to add each new potential donor to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register. Every new person on the register means another chance for someone to find their lifesaving match. By donating to my page, you will be giving more people with blood cancer the chance of a future. Thank you.Without you, there is no cure.
