UPDATE!
I did it! I finished the marathon in 5 hours 14 minutes. It was the most incredible, brutal, emotional and inspirational day and one I will remember for a long time to come. Full report to follow!
A Marathon For Dad
I started running not long after my father was diagnosed with cancer. And it soon became a release; whenever there was news about dad's health, whether that news was good or bad, I took it out on the road, knowing that the miles I was covering were nothing in comparison to dad's journey. So while dad bravely fought his cancer, I continued to challenge myself, working my way up through 10Ks to a half marathon. As the months and miles passed, running grew to become a friend, a comfort and an important reminder of life.
Dad very sadly died on 28th February 2009, and I could think of no better tribute than running a full marathon in his memory. So when I was offered the opportunity to run the 2010 Virgin London Marathon for Macmillan I jumped at the chance. It is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges I have ever faced, but I know I will run every step with my father at my side.
I would love it if you could join us, in celebration and support, by sponsoring me as generously as you can.
Your Sponsorship
Every donation of £50 or above will be honoured by a personalised name tag sewn onto my race kit!
~ £10 could pay for 20 copies of The Cancer Guide. This Macmillan booklet can help someone recently diagnosed with cancer, and their families, to understand cancer, its treatment and the help available.
~ £24 could pay for Macmillan physiotherapist for an hour.
~ £68 could run a typical small Macmillan Information and Support Centre for an hour.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: It cuts costs for Macmillan, and they get your money faster. What’s more, as a UK tax payer, JustGiving will ensure that Gift Aid is reclaimed on your donation, meaning more valuable money for Macmillan. And you can rest assured that details are safe with JustGiving – they will never sell them on or send you unwanted emails.
So please dig deep and donate now.
THANK YOU!
Don't forget to keep in touch to find out how my training is going. And I would love to see you there on the big day itself!
