Story
I'm taking on the June Crafting Challenge to support families facing dementia. For me this will probably be crochet, knitting, maybe some glass painting, I may branch out into origami too! My plan is to have a jar with 30 pieces of paper in it, and each day I select a piece of paper that will tell me what my craft is for that day. Or I might let the rabbit or rats select it or something! 30 minutes may not sound like much, but I’ll have to find time to do this every day!
My partner’s family is no stranger to dementia sadly. His dad has vascular dementia. It’s an awful, horrible condition to watch someone go through. There is no cure. It doesn’t just affect the diagnosed individual, it affects the family around them who often have to take on huge caring responsibilities and deal with massive amounts of stress.
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Their nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimers disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
I know times are tight. They’re tight for charities too as they have to deal with increased costs as well as possible loss of donations as people have to cut down on outgoings. Anything you can sponsor me for is appreciated!
I’ll post daily updates on Facebook and Twitter :)
