Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My motivation for running for this charity is two fold really - personal and sheer belief that my fundraising will make a difference. Those who know myself and my family will know the challenges we have faced over the last four years since my dear partner Andrew was diagnosed at 32 with a circa 5cm(classed as large) acoustic neuroma, the day before my son Ben went off to uni. If it wasn't for brain tumour research in the past it is possible that he would not have received the treatment he did and may not be here now. After two large operations and Stereotactic Radiosurgery his tumour has been monitored regularly and there has been some growth unfortunately. He will always have to live with challenging symptoms that are not apparent to those around him, and live with the spectre of regrowth. However he is lucky as his tumour is slow growing and benign. I have also lost friends to fast growing malignant tumours too. Additionally, Since Andrew's diagnosis I was privileged to work at Plymouth University Peninsula Medical School for a year and become aware of the brain tumour research projects they did there. With so many charities you don't get chance to get close to where the money goes, so to see the actual names of projects being undertaken made it so much more meaningful.
